As it always is, I am moving in medium gear towards a few little goals, with some high-gear options firming up in the background.
Currently, of course, is JET nightclub. Keeps me rather busy. We've been lucky with only having just a handful of private parties during this rIdIcUlOUslY hot-arse summer. I mean, wow. So I've been pullin' the same "hibernate-cuz-it-sux-to-go-outside" trick I used in the Chicago winters. Which has given me all sortsa time to practice my DJ skills...
Yeah, tryin' to get into a DJ set again. No, I won't be leaving the lighting thing for a few more years, and the DJing thing is not, by any means, a serious attempt to make a career out of. Really, it's more because I really enjoy playing with the new digital audio performance technology, and am learning how to make the tie between DJing and remixing on-the-fly. You know, like Moby used to do back in the "Go!" days. I love the fact that I no longer have to carry 6 crates of music - I can just grab a laptop - and have my whole set ready to spin any ol' time, any ol' place. Ahhhhh.... All the new house music is available in mp3 format more than vinyl these days - nice nice nice! So all I'm really lookin' fer is a small little lounge - not a club - where I can play DJ with a few of my DJ friends on like, a Tuesday night. Or maybe a late-night afterhours on Saturdays after JET. That could be a fun.
Woah - If I wrote that much about the minimal DJ ideas... I could fill a page or two about the rest. Egads. Let's keep the rest simple for right now, and feel free to press me for details on anything:
I finally got connected to a brilliant accountant who was able to help form my first company, tentatively called 'Luthe', which I believe means light but I haven't found out where...
And no, I didn't attend Chicago this year. I suspect Frankie might befinished with HOB, and I know I would completely understand if he was. Honestly, the past few times I've been very frustrated by their poorly maintained lighting rig, and I honestly could have phoned in my last show. I felt terrible that I couldn't bring any of the magic to Frankie's event, but without the right tools, I am useless. Instead, I'm using my vacation time to visit Portland for a few weeks, you know, to expand my knowledge of the location.
Sue's been writing a ton for her first 2 books, has gotten a bit overwhelmed at trying to infuse some of her newer ideas into words written months prior, so I suggested she simply do short stories to flesh out her technique, and at least get some publishable works out of this development phase. She's agreed (which is great, for I LOVE her short stories) and I can't wait to see what she cranks out, because she writes all the time.
OK, I'm gonna go off + do some laundry + watch Scarface. I've never seen it before, so this should be fun.
Stay tuned.
